The inspiration comes from the notion of experiencing the impossibility of seeing three dimensions in a two dimensional space.
It is so interesting because the imagination totally takes over the eyes and replaces what the eyes see with nothing but the imagination. It makes me wonder how often I see something in "the real world" without questioning it - believing it's real - even though it is just simply my imagination.
